Frequently asked questions
1. The page is old or not updating.
There are a number of reasons why this could happen. A computer problem on my end, this I can fix, it may be after I get home from work before I discover the problem but I can handle this. A power failure, the computer is on a UPS that will hold it up for about an hour. If the power is out for longer than that the computer will shut down and have to be manually restarted. ISP problems, I have no control over this.
2. The radar image is old or not updating.
See item 1 above. Also If the NWS radar site goes down for maintenance or because of a failure the last image that I got will be the one displayed. If this happens I have to manually switch to a differat radar site and that won’t happen untill I get home from work.
3. There are icons on the radar image that are not shown on the legend.
These are storm reports or damage reports. Anytime a significant weather event or storm damage is reported to the National Weather Service it gets passed on to the Storm Predicition Center and an icon representing the type of weather or damage is posted on the radar image for a short time. These include tornado, waterspout, flash flood, hail, thunderstorm wind damage and many others. There are to many of these to list and I don’t have a good source of information to build a legend for these icons. Use your imagination, most are self-explanitory if you look at the symbol. Also if you look at the Links page you will find a link to the Storm Prediciton Center strom reports page. Here you can find graphical maps and text listing for all current storm reports.
